4-H Leadership Project
The Colorado 4-H Leadership project guides youth through a progressive development of personal and community leadership skills.
In Leadership Skills You Never Outgrow, Junior members focus on character discovery and building through activities in self-understanding, communication, collaboration, and decision-making.
In Leadership Road Trip and Put Leadership to Practice units, Intermediate and Senior members are encouraged to apply these skills by completing project activities, summarizing learning experiences or challenges, and setting individualized goals to strengthen leadership abilities.
In Refining Leadership Skills and Community Service units, Senior 4-H Members focus on enhancing leadership and supporting others, completing all project activities, summarizing learning experiences, setting additional goals, and identifying, planning, and delivering a community service project.

Project Overview
UNIT 1
Leadership Skills You Never Outgrow
Designed for members 8-10 years old.
Inspiring youth to:
- Complete a series of character discovery and character-building activities
- Accomplish one of the following learning experiences
- Understanding Self
- Communication
- Getting Along with Others
- Making Decisions
UNITS 2-3
Leadership Road Trip and Put Leadership to Practice
Designed for members 11-18 years old.
Inspiring youth to:
- Build leadership skills by completing a series of activities
- Using the project manuals, complete all activities and summarize at least four learning experiences or challenges
- Set at least one individualized goal to benefit their leadership skills
UNITs 4-5
Refining Leadership Skills and Community Service
Designed for members 14-18 years old.
Inspiring youth to:
- Improve their leadership and assistance to leaders within their program
- Using the project manuals, complete all activities and summarize at least two learning experiences or challenges
- Set at least two individualized goals to benefit their leadership skills
- Complete all community service manual activities
- Identify, plan, and deliver a service project in their community

Find Your County
Counties play a crucial role in 4-H by providing a platform for young people to learn and grow.
Counties facilitate the delivery of 4-H programs that are of particular interest in their area and qualified, compassionate adult leaders run local clubs to support our youth 4-H members.

Project Tips
Leadership Skills You Never Outgrow:
Complete at least one activity in the following sections:
- Understanding Self
- Communications
- Getting Along with Others
- Making Decisions
Leadership Road Trip:
- Most of the activities can be done individually but some require a teammate, friend, or helper.


Put Leadership To Practice:
- Complete all 10 activities and Talking Over Activities in the Club Leadership I Manual
- Plan and accomplish at least one additional individualized goal.
Refining Leadership Skills:
- This unit is for members who have a leadership role in a club, team, committee, or group.
- Complete all 11 activities in the Club Leadership II Manual.
- Plan and accomplish two additional individualized goals.
Community Service:
- Identify, plan, and deliver a service project in your community using all nine activities.

Director Positions
Many career paths have director positions that lead daily operations or teams of people

Business Executive
Help lead a business or corporation by managing people and reporting to stakeholders

Military Officer
Provide leadership in one of the branches of the U. S. military

Human Resources
Manage hiring processes and ensure employees are treated properly and are supported

Politician
Serve the public by running for various offices in local, state, or national governments

Management & Training
Help lead organizations by training, managing or developing others

Entrepreneur/Sales
Start or work at a business to meet a need or provide a product that helps people

Teachers, principals, professors, and administrators use leadership skills daily
