4-H Filmmaking Project
The Colorado 4-H Filmmaking Project teaches youth how to create video projects from start to finish.
Participants learn to use video cameras, tripods, and capture/transfer footage, plan and design projects, and edit storytelling boards. They explore different formats including animation, narrative, documentary, promotional, and historical projects, developing technical skills, creativity, and visual storytelling.

Project Overview
Filmmaking
Designed for members 8-18 years old
Inspiring youth to:
- Use video cameras
- Use a tripod
- Capture and transfer footage
- Edit storytelling boards
- Plan and design video projects
- Animation: Film created by techniques that simulate movement from individual images
- Narrative: Film which tells a story based on fact or fiction
- Documentary: Film which presents factual information about a person, event, or process
- Promotional: Film or public service announcements that help publicize 4-H programs or other causes or interests
- Voices of 4-H History: Historical perspective on 4-H, using a combination of above designs

Counties play a crucial role in 4-H by providing a platform for young people to learn and grow.
Counties facilitate the delivery of 4-H programs that are of particular interest in their area and qualified, compassionate adult leaders run local clubs to support our youth 4-H members.

Videos
- Max 10 minutes in length
- Provide judge a link to view
- DVD media: be sure that it can be viewed on various platforms (ex: Windows, Mac, OS-X, etc.)
- Are in good taste (similar to G and PG ratings). Videos may be disqualified if deemed to have questionable content. 4-H Code of Conduct must be followed.
- Provide the following: Name, County, Title, Class, 4-H Age and Short Description.
- Include story board in the e-record
Careers

Director
Interprets screenplay and guides cast and crew to bring film to life overseeing artistic and dramatic aspects of film

Producer
Oversees film production including script, coordination writing, editing, manages budget, coordinates schedules

Film/Video Editor
Takes video post-production and joins it together to narrate a story in line with the director’s vision

Screenwriter
Organizes ideas according to the run time of the film, writing the script, dialogue, and scene directions

Cinematographer/ Director of Photography
Brings the visuals of the film together through all stages of production

Sound
Designer
Oversee all the sounds and audio that is recorded during film production

Production Designer
Create visuals of the film design sets, props, costumes, graphics for the film’s visual world

Visual Effects
Supervisor
Works with team of artists/technicians to create digital effects
