Volunteer for 4-H Youth Development
Help young people reach their full potential
Volunteers are the heart of Colorado 4-H, with more than 11,000 adults helping us reach over 110,000 youth each year. As a 4-H volunteer, you serve as a mentor and role model while supporting positive youth development and building life skills that prepare young people for adulthood. There are many ways to volunteer with Colorado 4-H, and we are eager to help you find a volunteer role that matches your skills, interests, and availability. We also provide resources and training to help you succeed in this important role.

Steps to becoming a volunteer
Since our volunteers work so closely with our young learners, we have policies and screening processes in place that all volunteers must follow. These policies help protect the young people who participate in our programs and ensure a positive learning environment that allows them to grow and thrive.
Here are the steps to becoming a new volunteer:
- Reach out to your county CSU Extension office to express your interest and see what open volunteer roles might be a good fit for you.
- Create an account on 4-H Online and fill out a short volunteer application.
- Submit information for a background check.
- Complete an online orientation course (approximately 1 hour), designed to familiarize you with Colorado 4-H Youth Development.
- Get started!
Each year, returning volunteers:
- Affirm their commitment to our policies by signing the 4‑H Code of Conduct and Annual Volunteer Appointment Agreement (required).
- Engage in additional volunteer training opportunities (optional).
