Developing life skills to empower youth
Our mission is to empower youth to reach their full potential by working and learning in partnership with caring adults.
Learning by doing
4-H focuses on youth learning by doing – this means projects are hands-on and youth driven. Youth focus on hobby exploration, leadership development, community service, expanding on life skills, and more!
Preparing to lead
Our vision is a world in which youth and adults learn, grow and work together. 4-H reaches over 110,000 youth in Colorado annually, helping them to become confident, independent, resilient, and compassionate leaders.
Caring and supportive mentoring
Colorado 4-H’s network of over 10,000 volunteers and almost 100 4-H professionals and staff members, provides caring and supportive mentoring to all 4-H’ers, helping them to grow into true leaders, entrepreneurs, and visionaries.
Join 4-H in your community
4-H is local and offers something for everyone. Colorado 4-H programs are organized through county Extension offices, connecting youth ages 5-18 and adult volunteers with hands-on learning opportunities. Whether you’re exploring your interests as a young Cloverbud, diving into projects as a youth member, or sharing your expertise as an adult volunteer, 4-H provides opportunities to learn, grow, and connect with others in your community. Find a club near you and become part of your local 4-H community.
Joining 4-H
Joining is easy and an exciting opportunity for youth to develop valuable life skills. Follow these simple steps to get started!
Find your local Extension office through the Extension directory.
Explore the many projects/topics Colorado 4-H has to offer. You may choose to participate in one or more projects, including topics like livestock, STEM, foods and nutrition, sewing, and animal science. Projects are fun to do alone and/or with your friends!
Before selecting a project, think about:
- An interest you’d like to explore
- A hobby you’d like to learn more about
- A topic of interest shared by you and your family
- Something that is fun for you
Some projects can be done with few supplies or things found around the house. Others, like horse or livestock projects, can be more expensive. Choose something that fits for you and your family situation. First-year families are encouraged to start with just 1-2 projects.
Projects can be added or dropped until March 1, and members are expected to complete all the projects in which they are enrolled. If you have any questions about a project, reach out to your club leader or county Extension office for guidance.
Community 4-H clubs are open to youth ages 8 to 18, based on their age as of December 31 of the enrollment year. Children ages 5 to 7 can participate in Cloverbuds, a non-competitive, age-appropriate introduction to 4-H.
