Colorado 4-H International Programs is part of the Colorado State University Extension State 4-H program. We work with partnering organizations like States 4-H to bring international programs to 4-H members across the state of Colorado.

Programs include short term Summer Inbound and Outbound programs which are four weeks during the Summer and immerse our members ages 12 to 18 with life in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Romania, Norway, Finland, and Costa Rica. And a three to six-month program where delegates live and work with host families through the Colorado 4-H International Exchange (IFYE) for young adults ages 18 to 30.

Colorado 4-H International Exchange (IFYE)

Inbound – Delegates, ages 19-30, stay two to three weeks with several host families during their three- month stay in Colorado. They come from many regions of the world: Western Europe, Eastern Europe, Latin America, Australia, Asia and Africa. They share information about their country, culture and the program with various community groups and travel throughout Colorado during their visit. Delegates generally arrive in Colorado mid-June or mid-September. Host families needed as short as 1 week and up to several weeks. Host Application Due 5/15

Outbound – Delegates, ages 19-30, visit a foreign country for three or six months. The countries are in Western Europe, Eastern Europe, Latin America, Australia, Asia and Africa. Six-month delegates leave the United States in late June and return in early December. Three-month delegates return in early September. The delegate lives and works with host families and gains a unique perspective about another culture. When delegates return, they travel throughout Colorado to share their experiences and broaden international awareness. The Colorado 4-H Foundation offers two full scholarships each year (personal spending money excluded). Application Due 11/1

States’ 4-H International Programs

Summer Inbound
Colorado currently hosts delegates from Japan and South Korea. This is a wonderful opportunity for families to get a taste of another culture without the worry of travel. This allows the youth delegate to see what life is like for a US family and how it is different from their own but also how it is much the same. After the month, families find they have a new family member and best friend for life. Host family applications are due May 15 and you can click here to apply through States 4-H.

Summer Outbound
The four-week outbound immersion opportunity for Colorado 4-H members allows travel to Japan and South Korea, as well as, Taiwan, Norway, Finland, Romania, and Costa Rica. Space for these trips is limited and the application deadline for Colorado 4-H is November 1 to the State Coordinator in Colorado. Please see each country flier for details on these locations.
